Description

The closing date for registrations was 4 April 2025.

Observing gravitational waves at frequencies > 10 kHz could offer a wealth of information on numerous astrophysical and cosmological sources, most of them connected to physics beyond the Standard Model. The technologies to tap into this information are seeing rapid progress thanks to great advances in the realm of quantum sensing. Therefore, now is an ideal time to connect the gravitational wave, beyond the Standard Model, and quantum sensing communities.

Building on the success of past workshops at CERN and ICTP, we anticipate another fruitful workshop at MITP this summer!

The two weeks of the workshop will be divided into two formats: a 1-week traditional theoretical program followed by a 1-week mini-conference where experimental colleagues are particularly encouraged to attend.

The 1-week theoretical program is open to 25 participants. MITP will cover local housing expenses and arranges accommodation for all participants for participants in this week.

For the 1-week mini-conference, we can accommodate up to 40 participants in the auditorium. Note that MITP can only cover local housing expenses and provide office space for 25. Additional participants are kindly asked to arrange their own housing. The application form allows any participants who are willing to arrange their own housing to indicate their intention. We will have to select participants according to these limitations.

MITP generally does not cover travel expenses. However, if you are only able to attend if some support is provided, please get in touch with one of the organisers, and we will see what we can do.

We look forward to seeing you in the summer!

Mainz Theory Palaver: Gravitational waves from primordial fluctuations Lorentz Raum (Staudingerweg 7, 05-127) (JGU Mainz)

      Lorentz Raum (Staudingerweg 7, 05-127)

The evolution of density fluctuations in the early universe inevitably generates gravitational waves. Cosmic microwave background observations measured such primordial density fluctuations on the largest scales in our universe (> Mpc). These large-scale fluctuations began their evolution days or years after the Big Bang. How was the universe at earlier times and on smaller scales? At the moment, we do not know much. But gravitational wave observations will provide new information in the next decades. In this talk, I will provide an overview of the so-called induced gravitational waves and how they can be used to probe the presence of primordial black holes. I will place emphasis on the effect of particle interactions on the resulting gravitational wave spectrum. On the occasion of the MITP conference, I will briefly discuss the implications of detecting high-frequency GWs for the primordial black hole scenario.

Note that this talk is part of the regular Mainz Theory Group seminar series, and will take place in the Lorentz Room, not the MITP seminar room.

Gravitational Wave Signatures of Primordial Black Holes Staudingerweg 7, Lorentz Raum 05-127 (JGU Mainz)

      Staudingerweg 7, Lorentz Raum 05-127

      JGU Mainz

The existence of primordial black holes can be probed through the gravitational waves generated during their formation and subsequent evolution. In this talk, we will explore different frequency ranges and the corresponding experiments designed to test their existence. We will cover the spectrum from ultra-low-frequency gravitational waves—targeted by future missions such as LiteBIRD—to current experiments using pulsar timing arrays and the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA network, as well as upcoming efforts in the ultra-high-frequency domain.

Note that this talk is part of the regular Mainz Theory Group seminar series, and will take place in the Lorentz Room, not the MITP seminar room.
