Final Travel Information

MITP Scientific Program 

“Next Generation Perturbative QCD for Hadron Structure: Preparing for the Electron-Ion Collider”

Arrival by plane at Frankfurt/Main airport (FRA)

Please follow the signs to Regionalbahnhof” (regional train station), located in Terminal 1, after baggage clearance. Either take S8 (direction: Wiesbaden Hbf) or Regionalexpress (local train) to Mainz Hbf. The ride takes approx. 25 minutes and costs about EUR 10,00. Tickets are available at vending machines located at the local railway station. Remember that you will need to obtain a ticket before boarding the train.

 

Arrival by car

If you are travelling by car, the most convenient, huge (and free) parking lot is “Dalheimer Weg”. Please see campus map attached.

Public transportation

You will only need a “Kurzstrecke” (short ride) - ticket to be purchased from the driver.

Seven-Day Tickets (Wochenkarten) are available at MVG ticket machines or MVG ticket shops, e. g. at Mainz Central Station. This ticket is valid on 7 consecutive days for Mainz and Wiesbaden and costs about 25,00 EUR. For details visit: https://www.mainzer-mobilitaet.de/.

 

At the Mainz Hbf (Central Station), you can find plenty of connections to MITP:

·         From platform A tram lines 51 or 59 (directions: Lerchenberg/Hindemithstraße or Hochschule Mainz).

·         From platform L tram line 53 (direction Lerchenberg/Hindemithstraße)

·         or from platform E the following bus lines: 54, 55, 56 (direction Klein-Winternheim, Finthen, Wackernheim).

Get off at Friedrich-Von-Pfeiffer-Weg and take a short walk across the campus.

Accommodation during the workshop

If you have contacted MITP to help you with accommodation, you have received your booking details in a separate email along with MITP’s cancellation policy. Please inform your landlord / hotel about your arrival time in advance. Not every housing facility provides reception service.

 

Registration
Program registration opens Monday at 9:00 a.m. at the MITP Guest Office (building no. 2413, Staudingerweg 9, 2nd floor, room 02-531). There you will receive an office key and cash card for the cafeteria. In case of loss, we will deduct EUR 15,00 from your deposit.

 

 

 

Internet access

Free wireless internet access is provided all over the campus. Guests at MITP will receive log-in information upon registration. In case you prefer to use wired internet via network outlets in your office, please ask for a personal account. If you use Eduroam, it also works fine on campus.

 

Office space

To enable fruitful collaboration, MITP provides all visiting scientists with office space during the program. All guest offices as well as the MITP lecture hall are situated on the 2nd floor at Staudingerweg 9.

 

Phone

The international country code for Germany is +49. The Mainz area code is 06131 (without “0” when calling from outside Germany). The MITP guest offices are equipped with telephones. For calls inside the University, you only need the 5-digits extension. A list of all office phone numbers will be provided. For phone calls outside the campus, please dial “0” to obtain an exterior line.

 

Food on campus

In the MITP guest information brochure you will find various places to purchase food on campus. Closest to MITP is the MENSA building with a cafeteria on the upper floor and a canteen downstairs. Here you will have to use your provided Mensa cash card which needs to be charged beforehand at the cash machines on the upper floor. Please note that MITP is unable to return any remaining balance on your cash card at the end of your stay.

 

Rent a bike

There are rental bikes available all over the city to be used with a smartphone App https://www.mainzer-mobilitaet.de/meinrad/meinradapp (website only in German). The App itself is available in English. Please ask the MITP Guest Office for further information.

 

Passport/Visa information

Please make sure that your passport is valid. Kindly be informed that all participants are responsible for their own VISA arrangements. Information about VISA regulations can be found here: www.auswaertiges-amt.de.
