1. General Information
The program of the annual retreat 2015 starts on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. It ends on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 18:00 p.m.
Check-in starts on Tuesday morning or earlier depending on the date/time of your arrival at the hotel.
Earlier arrivals can be arranged for you upon request. Please let the organizers know at least 2 weeks in advance.
Participants from PRISMA or the Graduate School 'Symmetry Breaking' of Mainz university are expected to use the bus shuttle. All other travel arrangements are at your own expenses and cannot be reimbursed.
2. Location
The "Caravelle Hotel im Park" is an assembly of large and 300 year-old buildings on the island Frauenchiemsee in the middle of the Chiemsee. The access is only possible via boat from the villages Gstadt, Prien or Seebruck (see page 5-6 of Map and Boat Schedule). From the train station in Prien the port in Prien/Stock can be reached by a 20 minutes walk or a ride on a amini train shuttle the "Chiemseebahn". From there you can take a ferry to the island Frauenchiemsee.
3. Accommodation
All participants will stay in guest rooms at the abbey, or in hotels on the island.
The rooms are furnished plainly and on a basic standard.
Please note that the abbey is in active use by Benedictine sisters. Participants are therefore required to behave in a calm and appropriate manner, and particularly observe the times of night rest.
Smoking is prohibited throughout the entire abbey, including the lecture hall and seminar rooms.

5. Travel Information
5.1.1 By plane:
Airport Munich-"Franz-Josef-Strauß" (at around 100km);
'S-Bahn' (train) No. 8 to Munich-"Ostbahnhof"; then train to "Prien am Chiemsee"; from Prien train station to the harbor Prien-Stock take a walk (20 Minutes) or bus, taxi or the little Chiemsee-train (8 minutes); then a boat to Fraueninsel (25 minutes).

5.1.2 By plane (alternative):
Airport Salzburg-W.A. Mozart (around 70km); bus or taxi to Salzburg main train station; train to Prien am Chiemsee; from train station to the harbor Prien-Stock (20 Minutes walk) or bus, taxi or the little Chiemsee-train; boat to Fraueninsel (25 minutes).
5.2 By train:
Railway line Munich-Salzburg, trains leave every hour or so to "Prien am Chiemsee" ('S-Bahn' and 'Regional Express', it takes 1:45h); from Prien train station to the harbor Prien-Stock take a walk (20 minutes) or take a bus, taxi or the little Chiemsee-train (8 minutes); then go aboard the ferry ship to Fraueninsel (25 minutes).
5.3 By car:
Highway A8 München-Salzburg; about 100km; Exit "Bernau", continue to Prien, then direction to Rimsting/Breitbrunn and arrive at Gstadt. From Gstadt take a ferry ship to Fraueninsel (10 minutes).
5.4. Car park
You will have to leave the car on a pulic car park in Gstadt (recommended; public parking in "Breitbrunner-Straße" or "Seestraße" or a parking house in "Seeplatz" near the pier).
You cannot access the island by car!

5.5. Bus shuttle from Mainz University (Sunday, 31.08.2014)
(for members of PRISMA and the Graduate School)
Meeting point: Car park Ackermannweg (on the university campus, next to the IMB building).
The meeting point for the shuttle bus is at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday morning (August 31st, 2014).
For the return trip on Friday (September 5th, 2014) the ferry will leave at 1:45 p.m. on "Hauptsteg" on the island. Arrival time in Mainz will be at around 10 p.m. on Friday evening.
Participants from other institutions or universities are welcome to use this bus shuttle as long as seats are available.
Please register for the bus by ticking the box on the registration form.

7. Internet Access
Internet W-LAN connections will also be available (max. 80 accounts).
8. Meals
The meals are provided by the 'Klosterwirt', a restaurant close to the abbey. Vegetarian food will be offered upon request. Please tick the box on the registration form.
Meals are served at the following times:
Breakfast: 8.00 h - 8.30 h
Lunch: 12.00 h
Dinner: 18.00 h
Coffee and tea will be served during the day and is free of charge for all participants. Softdrinks, wine, and beer can be purchased during the main meals.
9. Afternoon Excursions
The region invites to go hiking, climbing, swimming or sailing.
The school secretariat provides a list of suggestions, addresses and some flyers for your individual endeavors.
The group excursions are planned for Wednesday afternoon.
There will be either of two organized excursions to choose from:
1. Outdoor: Hiking tour 'Kampenwand' (1467m; sturdy shoes needed)
2. Cultural: 'Herrenchiemsee' (King's Palace and Art Gallery)
10. Weather & Clothing
Weather statistics over the last 5 years show an average of 1 day with rain and 5 hours of sun each day for the summer school week.
The temperatures vary from a maximum of 17-23 degrees Celsius during the day to 9-15 degrees Celsius during the night.
We advise you to bring some warm and rain-proof clothes for the island. It can get chilly especially in the evening hours!
On our hiking excursion on 1467m above sea level you should arrange for sturdy or hiking shoes, wind- and rain-proof clothes, and sun protection.
11. Additional Information
There are no supermarkets or grocery stores on the island.
There is no ATM/cash dispenser on the island. Cheques will not be accepted.
