    Chiral perturbation theory (ChPT) is an effective field theory which can be applied in the low-energy regime of QCD describing the strong interactions. Heavy baryons, such as the $\Delta(1232)$ resonance, can be included in the theory and the desired physical quantities can be calculated in ChPT in terms of an expansion in small parameters such as the pion mass or small momenta.
