Description
In recent years, considerable interest in various areas of modern physics has been focused on generation, detection and use of light carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) along its propagation direction. The wavefront of such twisted light exhibits a helical structure, instead of being an approximation of a plane. Being produced in a broad energy range from meV to TeV, and in both the classical and quantum regime, twisted light beams have already found their applications in atomic, molecular and nuclear physics and are currently considered for probing chirality of matter, generating novel excitonic states in solid state physics, and searching for signals of new physics.   

The goal of the present workshop is to address our current understanding of scientific and technical problems in the field of twisted light and to identify the goals for further development of theory and instrumentation. This workshop brings together colleagues with a shared interest in OAM to foster interactions, collaborations and knowledge exchange across a wide range of diverse communities, including atomic,  optical and chemical physics, quantum information, accelerator physics, nuclear and high-energy physics. In particular, the following topics will be covered:
  • Theoretical challenges in the quantum description of twisted light
  • New developments in twisted light generation: Nano focusing, Free electron lasers, Plasma and Accelerator based sources
  • Twisted light at the Gamma Factory in CERN and FAIR facility
  • Interactions of twisted light over a broad range of energies and systems
  • Twisted waves of matter at low and high energies
