Description

UPDATE: Given that the COVID-19 situation is still very uncertain, unfortunately, we have to postpone the school by one more year. We are planning now for the second half of September 2022 and hope to welcome you then.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Unfortunately, the COVID-19 situation doesn’t allow us to conduct the program – especially the practical part of it – in a reasonable and enjoyable way. Therefore, the school will be shifted to next year, taking place in the second half of September 2021.

The School addresses master students, Ph.D. students, and postdoctoral researchers aiming to work with particle detectors based on photosensors and FPGAs. It will introduce the concepts and technologies including light creation, propagation and detection as well as the associated electronics for signal acquisition.

School Program:
Morning sessions will consist of lectures, which cover the fundamentals and prepare for the afternoon laboratories. Working in small groups, the participants will get acquainted with the subjects through practical exercises: Silicon Photomultiplier characterization, FPGA programming and cosmic-ray muon detection.

Invited Speakers:
Albert Lehmann (University Erlangen Nürnberg),
Lars Schmitt (FAIR GmbH)

Local Organizers and Instructors:
Niklaus Berger, Andrea Brogna, Uwe Oberlack, Marie-Christin Wedel, Quirin Weitzel, Michael Wurm
(JGU Mainz, PRISMA+ Cluster of Excellence)
